“Max identifies as gender nonconforming, and their pronouns are they/them.”
“Nat is a woman of transgender experience. She identifies as a woman even though she was assigned male at birth.”
LGBTQ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer. You may also see LGBTQIA+ which has the addition of Intersex, Asexual, and more. It refers to people who do not identify with the traditional gender binary of male and female.
“The recent anti-trans bills negatively affect the LGBTQ communities nationwide.”
“There are many children’s books by LGBTQ authors for caregivers and teachers to choose from.”
BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. It refers to different daily experiences based on race that BIPOC individuals have in a dominantly white, colonial, capitalist, and patriarchal culture.
“I’m searching for a trauma therapist who identify as BIPOC.”
“BIPOC communities support one another in mutual aid networks throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.”
TDOV stands for Transgender Day of Visibility. “The day (March 31st) is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of transgender and gender nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice” according to the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network.
TDOR stands for Transgender Day of Remembrance/Resistance/Resilience/Rest. “TDOR is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence” according to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
